DAY 3: It's Just Another Manic Monday

So we learned today that just about everything is closed on Mondays - I guess this is New York's day to close down shop. The Public Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Skyscraper Museum, just to name a few. So we had to improvise, and amazingly enough, there is plenty to do in NYC.

We started our day taking the subway to Wall Street. We stopped at Federal Hall and the New York Stock Exchange. Just down the street was Trinity Church, an amazing cathedral with an intricately detailed interior. We walked through the chapel and outside through the old graveyard.

Next, we headed to the World Trade Center complex. We gazed at the destruction at Ground Zero and read information regarding the tragic events on that day in 2001. It's amazing to see the hole left behind and the damage done to many of the surrounding buildings.

We continued south to the lower tip of Manhattan - Battery Park. After checking out the park, Castle Clinton, and some amazing street performers, we hopped in line for tickets to the Statue of Liberty, only to find out that one must have advanced reservations to go inside the statue's pedestal. Since 9/11, tight security has prevented citizens from making the trek to the crown of Lady Liberty. They have recently opened up the pedestal of the statue, on condition of reservations. So, we got on the phone and made reservations for Wednesday morning.

We hopped on the subway and headed uptown to Grand Central Station. That place is huge! People we hustling and bustling around. A short jaunt down the road brought us to the New York Public Library, then the Rockefeller Center. We bought gyro and falafel lunches from a street vendor, and enjoyed our lunch there. Across the street was St. Patrick's Cathedral - we went inside to check out the huge pipe organ, stained glass, and various shrines to many different saints.

Fromt his point, Sarah and I broke off on our own to see the Trump Tower. Unfortunately, there were no official sightings of The Donald, but we spent some time relaxing in the Trump courtyard. After that relaxing and foot-relieving 30 minutes, we hopped back on the subway and headed to Brooklyn, putting a close to another EC05 day.

But wait! There's more. We stayed up late into the night playing Nerts, a sort of team solitaire, racing against the clock with your opponent. FYI - Todd and Ryan were the winners.
